Strathaven Ales is a new venture launched in 2005 by three local business friends, Douglas and Craig Buchanan and Allan Young.
There is a long history of brewing in Strathaven but the last local brewery was burned down in 1848 and it was to be one hundred and forty five years before Heather Ales opened their premises at Craigmill in 1993. By 2003 they had outgrown the mill building and moved their operation to a larger facility.
The brewery lay unused for two years until we could no longer ignore its potential to operate once again from its beautiful location on the banks of the Avon. It was felt that if the brewery could be resurrected it could help finance a visitor center serving Strathaven and the surrounding area.
The brewery is now fully operational and it is intended to commence developing the center during 2006.
We welcome visitors to the brewery between 2 to 4pm daily or by appointment, at which time the process can be viewed and the products sampled in our tap room. |
